I recommend trying Article Assistance if you don’t want to use an article submission service. The software is inexpensive and somewhat easy to use. They boast being able to automate the process and can distribute your articles to over 150 of the best article directories.

This is a semi-automated software system that lets you submit your articles to more than 500 article submission sites and Ezines. This product might be for you if you have a lot of articles to distribute and don't mind the amount of time you'll need to spend doing the initial setup phase.

I don't distribute articles very often so it turned out to be a lot more work setting it up than I wanted, so I returned the product. Even though I didn't care for Article Submitter Pro, I've listed it here because there seems to be a lot of satisfied customers. I did not encounter any problems or grief when I returned the product.
